Description
This is the church of Izalco, a very beautiful town, and very important in the history of my country because in it and its surroundings was held the first communist uprising in America, and was smothered in blood and fire by the government . more than thirty thousand peasants were massacred and the uprising failed.
There is a novel written by David J. Flakoll and Claribel Alegria called "Ashes of Izalco" which chronicles these events.
Izalco is also famous for having a volcano that was active until 1956 and was known as "The Lighthouse of the Pacific" because it was seen from miles in ocean.

lot of information. I hear a US preacher went down in Central America and he know some Spanish but he did not let no one know it. he knew he needed someone to speak in Spanish so he got someone. he was preaching and he noted the one they give him to translate the English to Spanish. was not doing it but was preaching communist and not Jesus. The preacher turn to the man and told him in Spanish to do it right or he was going to tell the people what he was doing. the translator got spooked and started doing that which was right.

Great architecture. Thanks for the information, so very sad; another shockingly brutal moment in American history. I confess I had to Google Izalco to find out wher it was. Some beautiful images on the web. The volcano looks stunning!

It never ceases to amaze me, the splendour and architectural designs of churches around the world and this is one of them, but so sad indeed when it comes to religion or politics and life's are being taken, in the name of it ... BB

A most beautiful shot, dear Neto. What a special setting with those electricity lines and poles beside it. Also that palm tree is making this photo very special. I very much love the color of the church. Thank you for sharing the story also. Well, this church has seen a lot happening in all those years. I also love the white columns around it.

You just barely fit the cross in there, :) beautiful building, why do they always have to place those power lines so close to a building like that. LOL I guess so they will have power. Nice work.
