A work in progress! Hi! My name is Melinda. I am happily married to the love of my life and we have a daughter who is in college. I live in Southern California and I am an amateur photographer. My husband bought me my Kodak P880 for Christmas in 2006. I looked at it and thought I'd never figure it out! I've only taken regular every day snapshots and never looked through the lens in a "creative" way. Then in March 2007 someone introduced me to Renderosity.  In May, I became brave and decided to upload my first photo... I haven't been able to put my camera down since! LOL. I still have a lot to learn, but I sure am having fun doing it. I have come a long way though. This time last year, I couldn't even put a photo on the computer! Now I have started to research DSLR cameras ... Who knows what the future brings! Update: I now have that DSLR :) Was the best Christmas (2008) gift!   I did the research and picked it out and Santa put it under the tree. It's a Canon Rebel Xsi .

I have a new DSLR, the Canon 7OD. A gift from my husband for Mother's Day. So much to explore!

Funny that I should see this. I was just recalling a conversation I'd had with a friend a while back (the friend also happened to be my landlord, and we were painting an empty apartment, getting it ready for the next tenants and I was getting a hefty discount on my rent and a hefty load of coffee, followed late that night, with an even more copious amount of beer. Some landlords are pretty cool!) Anyway, we were talking language stuff and he told me about the expression, "dead as a doornail." It was a long and convoluted story, as I recall, but essentially a "dead" door nail is one that's bent at nearly a right angle. The bent portion of the nail crosses diagonally across another "dead" doornail, forming a cross, if I remember the story correctly. I thought of that when I read the name of this rose, and for some reason, I was wondering if it somehow grew at a right angle with its head "bent" across the head of a neighboring rose. Sometimes I wonder about the way my mind works and I find myself amazed that it even works at all! That's a really convoluted way to go about making a comment here, but there you have it. This is a great picture, even without the rakish evocations sparked in my mind. I love the color and the almost velvet texture of the rose petals. This is quite marvelous. I have a ton of catching up to do and I hope to get at it soon. I like the fact that I saw this beauty, and will be back for more. This is great work.

Lovely shot of the rose, and I enjoyed Chip's comment too! Also, thanks for the link to your last upload which I has missed, dielectric union. I believe that is to stop the corrosion that would happen when two different metals are joined together, since a potential difference (voltage) would appear across the two metals causing a transfer of metal from one to the other. I didn't know these existed as it was a bit off of my field, and I've never seen one. Now, there you have two long-winded comments, LOL!
