Description

The Hoover Dam bypass bridge is not just any bridge, however. Soaring 890 feet above the Colorado River, it the second-highest span in the United States (the Royal Gorge Bridge in Colorado is 65 feet higher). And as much as it was constructed for cars and trucks, the bypass bridge was built for sightseers, too: from its six-foot-wide sidewalk, pedestrians have a grand view of the famous concrete dam, just 1,600 feet upstream. the 1,900-foot-long bridge is the seventh-highest in the world and the longest single-span concrete arch bridge in the Western hemisphere. 16 million pounds of steel, the 30,000 cubic yards of concrete and the two million feet of cable used to erect it I used my fisheye to try and get more of the canyon into the picture and I did not correct the fisheye effect.there is no arch to the bridge traffic surface except very minor

A great and fantastic shot, Richard, but it looks like there is a lot of damage from a kind of masts.

Incredible shot! It's funny. At first I thought some of those towers were toppled. Also, the structures at the bottom remind me of those temples in Egypt that were carved right out of the stone. This is a really great picture.

I like how the fisheye distorted this shot It emphasizes the height of the bridge. I always take the time to visit the dam and bridge when I visit Las Vegas- it's a breathtaking experience.
