Description
Just finished reading Kirby, King of Comics by Mark Evanier. It was great inspiration for my latest...
it's pure Jack Kirby tribute... all hail the King!
This is based on an old Kirby poster. I got it all wrong but Jack's version kicks butt! I always had a special fascination for it since I first saw it in an ad in a Marvel comic when I was around 9 or 10. Of course, if I'd taken a magnifier to that ad (I hadn't), I would've been surprised to see it was Herb Trimpe's poster because everything about it screamed Kirby. According to Evanier (in Kirby, King of Comics), that poster had been one of "several last straws" at Marvel for Jack. Marvel had asked Kirby to design posters of their characters and so Kirby submitted 8 excellent pieces and in a rare moment, inked them himself. Apparently, some editors at Marvel decided the 4 of the posters had too much Kirby in them and rejected them, not paying Jack for the work on those. I'm sure that must've been insulting enough to Jack before they had Trimpe trace Jack's rejected piece while adding a more Trimpe styled face. Again, Jack was not paid. This was how Jack was treated in the house he built.
2 M4's with karate pants, ghost agent sweater and pirate shirt, posed in DS3 and rendered in Bryce. Leader's daddy longlegs tripod modeled in Hexagon, all other elements made in Bryce. Compositing and postwork in PS.
