Description
For Deb, (Debwhosmiles), coming back to your old stomping grounds, my friend. I'm sure you've seen plenty of these colorful Eastern Collard Lizards. But I saw them for the first time ever on my last trip to the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge. Leaning on a rock to get a better view of Burford Lake, this guy appeared out of, seemingly nowhere, looking through the lens I caught view of something move out of the corner of my eye. Looking to see what it was, a second one showed up, well hello there, and who or what are you, I've been known to talk to animals, bugs, well critters in general when I'm out shooting. About that time the second one took of across the rock and jumped and I mean jumped I was amazed how far. OK new perspective on where to stand, LOL. To my surprise they were not real shy, but rather curious so I was able to get several shot of them before they completely tired of the game and disappeared, what great fun they were. A foot note They are the state of Oklahoma's state reptile, I've lived here all my life and didn't know that. They are also called Mountain Boomer. Not poisonous or dangerous except for they might make you hurt yourself getting away, LOL.

omg Thank you soooo much!!! Pretty neat you had an up close and personal introduction to them! =D I could not even begin to count the number of these I caught as a nimble-fast-moving-rock-scrambling-fearless-kid! Beautiful image of this handsome critter~ Yes, we knew them only as "Mountain Boomers" and only not many years ago did I come across a pic and their real name on a trip back to the stomping grounds. My wise mom would not let us take them home and they were always released uninjured~

What a GOOD photo of this cute little fellow. They ARE quite tame due to their curiosity, and quite intelligent (how would they otherwise survive in the wild, with predators and all?). You'd probably be able to pet it if you move slowly soas not to scare it, or maybe even pick it up. But, they can nip if scared. But they are always best off in their own habitat. And, you did get a nice demonstration of how fast and far they can jump! Keep up the good work! :-)

Beautiful little guy - they always look like the sun has bleached their colours out from the head towards the tail.
