Description

I saw this elaborate display in a nice restaurant in Nogales, Sonora, Mexico. This kind of colorful display is fairly common in the culture. At the time I went, several years ago, it was still relatively safe to go there, though I went with a friend who is fluent in Spanish. They had wonderful food. My favorite was the horchata, and they only had two servings left, but three of us wanted some, so we shared the two glasses. It is made of rice milk flavored with cinnamon. If I recall correctly, the flowers were made of silk. The tiles behind the icon of Mary are local native crafts, as are some of the vessels.

That is a great display. The one bright thing about our tour in San Antonio was the colors of the Mexican influence. We were able to bring some of that back and have redecorated our kitchen by ordering tiles direct from Mexico. I'm sure the UPS deliveries of heavy-ish boxes from south of the border attracted law enforcement interest. They are welcome to come in and admire the tilework we did. No donuts though.
