Description
"You fear destruction, don't you, Commander? You are trembling, waiting to see if I am going to destroy you, to make you pay for your crimes, unmake you so that no trace of you shall ever be found again in the Universe, so that you may never be reincarnated.
And just what would that teach you?
You would be dead and gone and incapable of improvement."
She paused, looked searchingly at the Commander.
"Look at what you have done in your career. Do you realise just how much
you have to regret? Are you capable of regret?
Man believes his gods are capable of showing mercy. Are you worthy of the mercy of your gods? You have no gods, unless they be gods who revel in death and destruction.
And yet you know, deep down, the difference between right and wrong; you also feel in your very bones that there is a power far greater than you, a power that exists for the good of all creation.
Some creatures see that power as male, others, as do those who live on this planet, as female. To them their Goddess is not "up there" somewhere in the sky, but here, within them and part of them. She is woven into our very fabric and when we call on her we call on all the forces within ourselves and out there in the world.
You are judged by your actions in this life. For those actions you are to be punished. You are condemned to Utter Silence and Darkness for such time as it takes for you to regret your past actions."
The Commander stared at the Guardian, but said nothing.
"But we are just. Having punished you it is only right we should allow you the chance to return and do better.
Every criminal should be allowed the opportunity to put right the things he or she has done wrong. We will hear you when you call."
