Description

I finally got a halfway decent shot of The largest known species of woodpecker in the United States. There may be some ivory billed woodpeckers somewhere but none that have been verified for at least 50 years. This guy is a Pileated woodpecker. I hope you enjoy viewing him.

oh, he is magnificent...wonderful capture...we had these guys upstate ny. we lived in the woods and had a cedar shingle house. every once in the while, one would decide to do his thing on our house...god, like a little jack hammer :)

He is a beaut:) Great you ran across this guy I see very few woodpeckers here in town.. Nice catch! Each spring I walk around here and try to get a good photo of these- plenty to chase and plenty of walking ...they generally are just not willing to be photographed on my terms.
