Description

Just practicing with my macro lens. I've only had my camera (my first slr) for a week and a half, and only had my macro lens for 4 days so I have a lot to learn!! I put together a make do macro box (until my husband builds one for me) and took some pics of normal mondaine items. Kinda liked how the thread and needle looks. The thread and needle are from a small sewing kit, the kind that has the mini spools and tiny needles. The spools of thread are about an inch tall. I resized it in photoshop and tweeked the curves a bit, but didn't sharpen it at all. :) Tips, tricks and/or general advise is always welcome!

Yep I did the same thing, made a macro box! lol I also bought inexpensive lighting from walmart, and it worked really well. I need to make a new box because I have since tossed mine out but I need to make it more sturdy this time. Not sure if you can see this album or not, or if you are on Facebook, but https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10150119923718209.307588.598338208&type=3 I have some photos there, and another album called Botanical Gardens, and those are with the canon as well. Here is the other one https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10150361092233209.387578.598338208&type=3 I have a lizard in there too! Though not my pet - he lives at the local zoo lol

Good for you for being brave enough to get a SLR. So many people settle for bridge cameras or compacts, but it's the SLR that will let your creative juices fully flow! Have fun and great job on this IMHO.

Very cool shot, I like its simplicity of composition! The little white thread to the left hand side as we look at it is a tad distracting (IMHO), but hey, overall the shot is really nicely balanced and you have used the limited DOF in macro shooting very nicely! Keep shooting Martin
