Description
As I was in an ideal place (southern Oregon) for viewing, I did my best to get a decent photo of the annular solar eclipse yesterday (without burning a hole in my retina). Wasn't really sure how to go about it, so I just tried a bunch of different things (bracketed exposures, different scene modes, etc) with the camera on a tripod & using the LCD screen to avoid looking directly through the lens. I also read that my camera's sensor could be damaged, so I didn't keep it pointed at the sun very long. With some postwork to bring out additional detail & contrast, this was my best shot...

Definitely not an easy subject to shoot. I forgot about it or I would have been able to shoot through a welding helmet which might have worked. Now I'll have to wait for the next one!

I try to shot my shot with some camera file but did not have clear tape to make it all the way across my len. i did try a point and shoot with the tape but it did not do right at all. I was happy to have a thin lay of cloud to get my shot good. i even looked at it for a little while before it when down. I did look thought the film at times to see if it was happening but it was not intill late as the sun was going down cool shot

I wouldn't know how to begin to try for this; luckily (I guess) I didn't have to try, since we had thick clouds and rain all day. Oh well. Nice work!

Excellent, like my honey, the cloudy atmo took our chances away. Fascinating shot.

outstanding try. a dark filter or a dark piece of glass held up to your lens would work

Was at a great local on the north California coat. We ended up with coastal clouds minutes before it began though, ughh!

I bought an A4 sheet of Baader solar film from Amazon for about £20, made a holder for it out of an old cardboard box, so that it fits snuggly over the end of my 600mm lens. I can now look straight at the sun with no fear of damage. Great for seeing sunspots etc. when the British weather permits. Hope this helps! I can send you a pic if you're interested, it looks thoroughly Heath-Robinson but works great...
