Description
remembrance for those that fought and /or died fighting for the confederacy. I have an idea that the majority of soldiers that fought for the South never even had a slave but were fighting for the rich land owners

Super capture Richard! The civil war was a sad time in American history. We need to always remember such atrocities to try and avoid them again in the future.

When I was a reporter I did a story on Civil War soldiers in Michigan. It seems they are forgotten.

A terrible war to be sure, as all are. I tend to believe that it was fought for many reasons, most of them wrong. the short list would include: the industrial northern states losing control of the southern ports... the fear that many southern states were leaving the Union and thereby weakening the USA's growing strength... the inability for our government (even then) to compromise and work in a way that guides the entire population towards evolution, instead we were pushed into a civil war much like the one being fought in the middle east now... There were heroes on both side of the conflict, but in the end all it proved was that Federalism was a stronger means of taking what was demanded than States Rights. Now as then, we have a controlling group of self-serving people who line their pockets at the expense of the general population. I love this shot, one thing about the south... they never forget their heroes. sorry about the rant.

Living here in Middle Tennessee I have to agree with barryjeffer, the Civil War, its battles, its fields, its heroes, are never forgotten as the history is all around us. It's our visible connection to the past much as the same in Europe with history in every view. I think the Civil War made a young USA grow up fast and look to what was important in the bigger picture. Nice Memorial~

you right but the war was also for freedom of what each state can do or not do; plus it was about money too as the north had factories and the south had farms; big farms. a lot of people think it was just about slaves but that was just part of it. the rest is not told now days. got to look it up in the old history books.
