Description
The Cathedral of Christ the Light in Oakland, California. An impressive modern structure completed in 2008 that is a replacement for a cathedral destroyed in the 1989 earthquake. It has been praised for it's dramatic design, but according to the Wikipedia article on it, there has been some controversy about it's $190 million cost. Some thought the money could have been better spent on helping the poor or building schools & to add fuel to that fire, in 2005, the Catholic Diocese of Oakland had to take out a loan to cover part of a $56 million settlement with 56 child abuse victims...

One million bucks per abused child?...Something dodgy there. Great shot though.

A very impressive cathedral and a super capture.

The structure is somewhat interesting but looks unfinished with all that concrete showing. Surely the richest church on earth could afford a little marble facing when $190 million can be allocated to this little project. I'd like to see the ornateness of the offices of all the different Arch-whatevers who will be ensconced in there. Pomp for some, mere ceremony for most. It reminds me of a little poem someone wrote about an expensive sailboat and it's owner... "He coils all his lines and his binnacle shines, but he's only been sailing twice!"

the architecture of churches can be impressive, but I agree the money could be used for a greater purpose.I do not know, like money laundering?
