------------- Crimson Velvet – Vulnavea

“They don’t call them steel elves for no reason.” - Cameron Quinn.

When Eroboria joined the Crimson Velvet, she was not alone. She hadn’t been alone for some time. But exactly how the Tiefling and the Zeigus elf mercenary had come to meet and become a couple, they weren’t saying. It took a good deal more time before they’d trust any of the others to share their story.

Vulnavea Eurystheus was born in the later days of the Republic Occupation. Viridia was never part of the Raidon Protectorate, but the size and might of that alliance dwarfed any ideas of imperialism that Viridia might have had. It did not, however, prevent them from continuing their ages old slavery and gladiatorial traditions. Even though it was a thousand years before, the memories of Saint Kandevar were still fresh in everyone’s minds. The idea that a Zeigus Elf, an outsider, a non-human, could have proven to be the greatest hero of the church of Athena shocked many. Most accepted the event as what it was, the martyrdom of a great man and a truly holy priest. Others found the event insulting and they took out their hatred on all the Zeigus they met. Never was that so true as in Viridia, one of the nations who’d lost the 250 Years War.

Vulnavea grew up feeling that hatred every day. When she was old enough, she learned how to fight. She was barely a child when the War of Arrallon and the Second Orc Wars ravaged the land. But mostly that was far away. She was part of the coming blood tide when the High Priest of Ares manipulated the Atheaen crown into going to war against their ancient Symballan enemies. She heard Ares’ war cry and joined the crusade to wipe out the Symballans once and for all. But the war ended with no clear winner. Ares was punished by the Gods for His plot, and His forces were scattered. But Vulnavea wasn’t through shedding blood.

She became a mercenary, selling her sword arm to anyone who could pay, but taking only those jobs that would promise the greatest chance for combat. Her career eventually brought her west to Carellon, where anything can be bought or sold. She started taking jobs from the Setting Sail Syndicate, as those always managed to lead to bloodshed. In the particularly nasty, smelly, violent town of Wyreport, she met Eroboria. It took little enough time working with her before Vulnavea discovered her secret, that she was no human or elf, but a planar traveler known as a Tiefling. Not long after that, she discovered her other secret. The two have been lovers ever since.
