Voyager 1 est la première des deux sondes du programme Voyager lancées en 1977. Sa mission principale était d'étudier les planètes géantes Jupiter et Saturne. C'est la première sonde spatiale qui a fourni des images détaillées des lunes de ces deux planètes. Voyager 1, qui a franchi les limites du Système solaire, continue de collecter des données scientifiques. D'ici 2020, les instruments doivent être progressivement arrêtés pour faire face à l'affaiblissement de la source d'énergie électrique fournie par les trois générateurs thermoélectriques à radioisotope. Voyager 1 ne sera plus capable de transmettre de données au-delà de 2025. Ce n'est pas leur source de plutonium qui leur fera défaut mais les thermocouples qui convertissent la chaleur issue du plutonium en électricité
Voyager 1 is the first of the two Voyager probes launched the program in 1977. Its main mission was to explore the giant planets Jupiter and Saturn. This is the first spacecraft that provided detailed images of the moons of these planets. Voyager 1, which has transcended the limits of the solar system, continues to collect scientific data. It is very interesting how so many minds could figure out how to do so much with so little...back then. Now a days we can't even send an RC car to Mars without getting it stuck on a rock...if it lands in one piece. Things were really built to last back in the day. Maybe instead of seeing how we can 'improve' on the past, if we thought what would the past do with the advances we have made...Mars would probably already have been teraformed... Just a thought.
