Description
The church was destroyed in the firebombing of Dresden during World War II and it was completely reconstructed. The reconstruction of its exterior was completed in 2004, its interior in 2005 and, after 13 years of rebuilding, the church was reconsecrated on 30 October 2005.

Beautiful shot. I read about the fire bombing of Dresden long ago in Kurt Vonnegut's novel "Slaughterhouse 5". Amazing that this reconstruction was undertaken & completed so successfully...

your angle allows us a sense of the massive 'shoulders' of this building, a very Germanic weighty structure with Romanesque arches (though I think it was built in the Renaissance, and not in the Romanesque era), and that beautiful dome. Very fine angle and pov! And, by allowing the top of the dome to shine forth, you've given the image a real lift. I'm not surprised at the time it takes to reconstruct these churches...they took years to build originally, and if one is to be exact, the reconstruction has to be painstaking. Luther's statue on the right is a fine accent to the shot.
