I've seen 2 actual 49 Merc's and have always enjoyed this particular year especially after seeing Sylvester Stallone drive his in Cobra....Though I should of known they were going to total it at some point which for someone like me and the average Joe hates when they do that to a classic...Why is it like a horror movie when they kill the good look'n women and always destroy the classic rides...I damn near cried when they ruined that Merc all for the sake of because they could....Grand Capture here Stan...Wouldn't of been the same if not for the fire exhaust....One truly cool effect!

when I was involved with a race crew, the director of then Texas World speedway formerly at College Station TX had rotary engine Mazda that he competed with formerly Sportsman class racing.he could not hold them on the long stretch because they were running 800 hp plus V8 engines, but on the curves he could make them earn their keep anyway when he would back off to take a turn a huge ball of fire would shoot out his exhaust.I had taken pictures of it but someone stole them at the developers superb Merc and capture
