Description

No message here, just a scene that I thought was poignant. Several of my recent posts have been of churches, but I didn't want to leave the impression that they were religious in nature (not that there's anything wrong with that!). It just so happens that many interesting & beautiful examples of art & architecture are to be found in churches & temples & religious icons. Although I consider myself a spiritual person in a secular sense, I am not a member of any religion. I do have a strong affinity with Buddhist philosophy & principles, but that's about it. I believe most religions begin with good intentions, but often end up causing a lot of trouble & misery. There are many examples in Christianity - the Crusades, the Inquisition, burning "witches" at the stake, pedophilia, murder of abortion doctors, etc. I find the behavior of the religious right in the U.S. today very disturbing & very un-Christianlike. I respect everyone's right to believe whatever they want on a personal basis, but I expect the same in return & am not okay with any religion either trying to convert me to their doctrine or injecting themselves into politics.
