Description

Remodeled in Wings3D Rendered in DAZ/Studio 2.2 (multiple-pass) Postwork in AdobePS 7.0 It was recently that someone from another site condemned my work, saying that it lacked any degree of realism and that I should put more work into my projects. Well, I gave them an earful and asked, "By what standard is my work judged?" The response "Why 3DSMax of course!" It was at this point, I stood fast and proceeded to point out that I thought that DAZ/Studio and 3DSMax are at opposite ends of the spectrum in terms of rendering results. The battle continued, neither seeing the opposite side of things. Frankly, I was appalled that someone could be so close-minded to insinuate that I am a hack-crafter pumping out garbage. Oh well! I guess I can't win them all but then again maybe I have.... because the site that I submit to has a great connection with Google and I am now starting to see my work show up in searches:) I typically spend about a day doing additional modeling and setup(8-12 hours)By this time, if I am pleased with the results thus far...I render my first pass(straight-no shadows)then if everything looks okay, I adjust my single light to achieve the desired shadowing. Kick on Raytracing, click render, and head for bed. When I wake up in the morning, I usually have a nice render just waiting to be postworked with any additional layers from the day before. So Day 2 is spent layering, smudging, blurring, fogging and general blending. Once that has happened, I call upon my in-house critics(wife, son, and anyone standing over my shoulder). They help me decide if it's up to par or if it's back to the drawing board. At this point, if I put anymore effort into this...it would seem like a job. I retired 4 years ago and on a whim decided to take up 3D modeling as a hobby though I've dabbled in many different genre's since 2006. I am over being *bent* about the whole lack of effort thing but, how could anyone expect a positive outcome from such a negative criticism? With all that being said, I post my work to three different sites and this forum stands out as the fairest, most evenhanded group of down-to-earth people. That's why I call here.... home! Thanks to one and all for making this such a wonderful site!

Well, now there you go again and produce another absolutely a beautiful render of a "80" custom Chevrolet pickup! Even thought I don't know a thing about how to or the first thing about how to do this kind of art, I'm always blowen away by the increditable art these people do at Rendersoity for viewers to ponder, and your no exception. I love every part of this render even the color of this ride, and my advice to you is to keep them coming, and as long as I can still breath and am still a member here I'll continue to look at what you've come up with, and most of all don't let other people make you feel your not good enough, those people need to get a life. Thanks Stan for the vote of confidence and continued support. I do this mostly for personal satisfaction and the sense of accomplishment but, I'd be pulling legs if I said that other people's opinions didn't matter. So long as people enjoy what they see, I'll continue to post:) Really I am just trying to carve out a niche for myself. I love working with DAZ/Studio and have no desire to jump on someone else's bandwagon. Yeah! my chrome is blown out and there are no realistic reflections to blur the line between obvious 3D and real world instances. Then again, if there were those elements... I'd be doing what a million and one others are doing currently. My work is as unique as I am and I wouldn't have it any other way;) -Rick

Another great image, I love the render style of your images. Art is not defined by strict adherence to realism its defined by the expression of ideas. Making an image that sings to the soul of its viewers and its creator is what i believe to be one of the fundamentals of what makes up Art. Though art is a little like beauty or music it defies clear definition because it relies on the participation of the subject and the viewer. One mans treasure can be another mans trash so to speak. If you want super realism thats okay to, but just because something is not done in a realism style doesn't mean it lacks artistic credibility. Seems these days you can't stroll anywhere on the information Super Highway without coming across a troll under every bridge. Though I must say that Rendo is one of the few places you will find genuine people without the bitter cynicism found elsewhere. Most criticism tends to be constructive and not destructive in nature. You know the best way to defeat a troll is to ignore them. Most of the time there just looking for a flame war anyway. Don't let this small sting get to you. Just keep doing what your doing because there are plenty more people about who appreciate what your doing. And most of all do it cause you love it. Don't feel the need to justify yourself. Your art speaks volumes for itself.

Richard, what a wonderful point! Obviously people are drawn at some point and then a darker side comes out for reasons unbeknownst. We most certainly can't win them all and for good reason, I suspect. I thank you for your comments:) Hat's off to each and every one of you, who make this such a special place! You guys ROCK! -Rick

We've had our talks Rick...we understand each other well enough...Everyone has and is entitled to his or her own opinion but keeping it within the limits or boundaries should be...I say again...should be the way an artist should give and or take criticism. When lines are crossed does not help or benefit the giver or receiver. With that said....I wonder what this individual would think of "MY" model building that's created in a program that was not designed for said creating...I've been told numerously that what I do with Bryce is impossible or I'm cheating or ...or...or....lol...Yeah okay....what ever....This nay sayer you encountered is probably jealous and couldn't create an ice cube without an ice cube tray....rofl...You've done the right thing by blowing it off and moving on. For what it's worth my fellow model builder...This 80's Pick'm Up is Kick Azz!! The orange is a righteous color choice!! You know I haven't turned out a car/truck lately from my man cave so I guess it's time I find one and get to modifying it...((((Smiles))))

Will, my shelter from the storm, my external voice of reason, remind me of everything good we hope to see in others. Despite the path's we choose, we are bound to hit bumps in the road...that's a given. And I am once again reminded that true grace doesn't leave us stammering because we fell off of the cart but, gives us the opportunity to jump back up...dust ourselves off and continue on our merry way. Not necessarily oblivious to it all but, within our own means of coping...learn from our mistakes. Let me tell ya though... there are days when I wish I had the power to cut people like this off from the outside world. Maybe then, they might be more appreciative of others. Not like TY TY TY but, with a humbled experience that reminds people to do unto others as you would have done unto you. I've had a chance to go back and see how this person had conducted themselves with others comments and I have to say that 1. others have been hammered by his comments as well 2. that I lost the number to my Italian Mafia connection or they'd be standing at his doorstep as we speak :) ROFLMAO Anyway, I think the world of you guys and if it's up for debate? THE FIRST ROUND'S ON ME! Did you say man cave????? Yay! Something from the man cave huge grins Love the theme and actually found a website that is dedicated to building virtual man caves. A novelty site for sure but, also with a huge therapeutic value for us hopelessly addicted self-professed "CarNuts"
