Description
A Dream
In visions of the dark night
I have dreamed of joy departed-
But a waking dream of life and light
Hath left me broken-hearted.
Ah! what is not a dream by day
To him whose eyes are cast
On things around him with a ray
Turned back upon the past?
That holy dream- that holy dream,
While all the world were chiding,
Hath cheered me as a lovely beam
A lonely spirit guiding.
What though that light, thro' storm and night,
So trembled from afar... *excerpt from A Dream by
Edgar Allan Poe.

Beautifully done. Lovely illustration of Poe's poem. The moonlight reflections on the skin are wonderful.

Wow, buddy. This render left me speechless. Stunning work. The emotion here is just breathtaking. And that was before I read the poem. Incredible work of art, my friend. It's hard to look away from her. So striking. This has been about a five minute view already. More than a signature piece. A masterpiece.

Very powerful and intense image you picked the right poem for it

Love the pose and the light on this. The focus on her face really highlights her "longing" expression, and the flock of birds in the background have more of a role than it might seem at first glance. They, unlike her, are able to fly wherever they want, their silhouettes cast again the moon, whereas she can only look at it and escape in her mind. Beautifully done! :)

technically, one of your best renders, imho ! I love the pose and the background. A fav !

This is one rockin portrait, fantastic Light/Shadow, just terrific. Peace Umm, a word to the wise about the Poe piece, you may get dinged on Copyright for using the whole Poem and not just an excerpt, I don't know how much of Poe's work is Public Domain.

Such a lovely, lovely image! This one takes my breath away, the whole scene..as someone said, her longing expression coupled with the birds in flight really gives so much depth in this picture. And the subtle blue-green colors with the light on her just adds to the dreamlike intensity. Bravo!!! OXOXOXOXO Jane

"For my own part, I have never had a thought which I could not set down in words, with even more distinctness than that with which I conceived it. There is, however, a class of fancies, of exquisite delicacy, which are not thoughts, and to which, as yet, I have found it absolutely impossible to adapt to language. These fancies arise in the soul (alas, how rarely!) only at its epochs of most intense tranquillity - when the bodily and mental health are in perfection - and at those mere points of time where the confines of the waking world blend with the world of dreams. So I captured this fancy, where all that we see or seem, is but a dream within a dream." excerpted from Poe's "Marginalia" and changed to reflect the Orson Welles reading of it used as an intro to "A Dream Within a Dream" from "Tales of Mystery and Imagination" ~ the debut album from The Alan Parsons Project. A very fine visual interpretation of Poe's work, Seth, he's been a fave of mine since discovering him early in my life. Your dramatic lighting gives it a very dream-like quality indeed.
