Description

I happened upon this guy yesterday. It is the only poisonous water snake species in North America. It's bite can be fatal. It is commonly referred to as a water moccasin. Hope you enjoy it as it was a bit scary photographing it even though I stayed several feet away.

Beautiful colors on this one. When I was growing up, a common name was "Cottonmouth".

For these guys i would prefer to have a 600mm lens range. The further they are from me the better. Only snake pictures i took thus far is in the Zoo where the snakes are held in glass cages. Great find and capture my friend. One for my favorite list. God Bless.

I'm with kgb224. 300 mm. were not enough choice. I hate snakes (Indiana Jones says...) Poisonous less... Great shot. Next time, keep safe.
