Description

Surrounded on all sides, the world engulfed him like unstable explosives. One wrong move and it would all be over, but the tension built with every moment. This wasn't meant to be easy, but it shouldn't be this difficult. Her eyes kept waiting for him to say something intelligent but all he could think of was the mindless drivel which he dealt with at work. He hoped it would be interesting while he explained the details as a very expensive dinner grew colder on his plate. She had finished half of her lobster while he had rambled about the differences between a switch and a router. He was too far into it to stop now, but he stopped anyways. And awkward pause that must have filled the entire room pursued the immediate halt in his monologue. "So what do you do?" as he grabbed his fork like a weapon to defend himself from a barrage of insults that would never come. He quickly thrust it into his food, but he was no longer hungry. "I'm a librarian" The conversation was over, did it explode? It was over right? A one-line answer. But what could he have expected from such an idiotic question, an essay? After all, he had just talked for twenty minutes without another thought in his head. She needed an answer, but that wasn't a question. Shit. "That's cool," he said and the conversation was over. ---- I don't always write stories, but when I do I only write short stories.

I found this an amusing reminder, I’m never alone. Maybe I am basing it off the man who wrote it and the very little I know of him. I know, a no, no. In addition, I am also relating as reflecting on memories of my own. Where, I’ve found myself in similar situations where I could not shut up to save my life. At which time when I did stop to take a breath, I realized the other person had mentally left the station. Oh, good times. “Laughs @ self” If you’re looking for writing pointers, I’m no expert but, (excuse the pun) I did catch one to many “buts” in there. (“Laughs @ self”)

Well short or not - this story is great. I can picture it perfectly from what you've written.
