Description

As I went past the room door I heard the friends talking. "Will this be ok, do you think?" asked Zwoggle. "No it has to be a torch." said Zlata bringing her arms up in a, don't you understand gesture. "But it has a flame." he replied. "Its a candle in your lantern, Zwoggle. It has to be a flame, flame." Zlata answered, not quite understanding what she was saying. "We can still run with it though, it will be easy to pass on & it shouldn't go out." explained Zwoggle. Hoping Zlata wouldn't get too mad with him. "Look, does it really matter? Its just a bit of fun." said Jasmine, she too, hoping the friends didn't let this get into a big arguement. Buck jumped onto the back of the chair & asked what everyone was upto. "Its just that the Olympic torch is coming to Cleethorpes later today & Zlata & Zwoggle wanted to run along with it too but as they haven't been asked to carry the real one they wanted to make one of their own." Meadow explained. "Well I think Zwoggles lantern would be perfect." Buck replied. The friends watched Zlata's face for her reaction. "I agree too." chimed in Jasmine. "Me too." said Meadow. Zlata just gave a sigh & said "Yes I do too, so what are we waiting for, lets go outside & practice." I moved away from the door as the friends got up & went outside to have a little practice at carrying the torch or in their case the lantern. My son text me today to ask if I was going to watch the torch go by. I told him I was off to Pennels & Tesco & would have missed it anyway as I thought it was tomorrow. So I guess I am not in with the torch frenzy :o) Thanks for all the lovely comments & favs, so, so appreciated. xxxx Zlata, Zwoggle - Leilana

Lovely story! I shall try to watch on the 13th when it gets here, as it won't happen again in my lifetime, a bit like the Transit of Venus! (which we couldn't see for cloud)

Wonderfully done Barbara. Your story is great. I enjoy the olympics and appreciate the dedication the atheletes put into becoming the best they can be at thier chosen events. But I really find it hard to understand the hype that surrounds the whole thing. Cities battling for years to be chosen as the host city, just so they can go billions of dollars into debt, displace much needed housing so they can build fancy sports venues, and the hoopla around the open and closing ceremonies. Montreal hosted the 1976 olympics and we are still paying for it, despite the olympic stadium has since ceased to exist after the roof crumbled in with old age.
