Description
Not much to look at, but it came from my first batch of six images taken with my homemade pinhole camera. Just a large elm in my backyard. Resisted the attempt to fix anything in it. There are some scratches from my first try at tray developing negatives that are 4"x5", not as easy as it sounds. I'm looking forward to the second time being much better. Also resisted (killer for any digital artist) changing contrast, brightness, etc. The print is also 4"x5", made as a contact print from the negative. I just scanned it into Photoshop, resized it and saved the jpg, errors and all.
For those interested in the technical stuff (as if there is much in a pinhole camera): Focal length: 100mm, f260. Exposure time, 2 sec. Cheap film, cheaper resin coated paper (just trying to get the hang of things). Camera I made out of MDF 1/4" board.

That is really just so darn cool! To see someone go back, make and then use an original historical pin hole camera in this digital age is truely amazing. Thank you for NOT doing postwork on this; what a treat to see the real goods as it were. I for one look forward to seeing more of this exploration.

I applaud you. One of the things I love about science is the inquisitiveness which is inherent in it. I often feel that artists would gain from sharing that same desire to experiment. Yet we have programmes now that can effectively produce almost an entire work of art for us. This demonstation that you have shared with us is exactly the opposite. You are an established and recognised artist here and you still have the desire to throw away the automated tools and return to basics. Bravo! May others learn from your example.

And I thought you were a Poser genius... which, of course, you'll always be, but this is just amazing. The fact that you built your own camera and were then able to get a capture like this. Absolutely gorgeous. LOL @ the irony that so many people using modern tools postwork their image to death to get it to look like this. :) GREAT work! :)

Excellent stuff. You get more of a hands on feel when you develop your own stuff. I used to love doing my own black & white stuff years ago. And building your own pinhole camera makes it even more fun.
