Description
Damon awoke in a low-lit room, his head throbbing with strange unnatural sounds. It took a moment for his eyes to focus. He saw Garga'mord, his sword, lying on a table beside him that seemed to be an extension of the slab-like bed he was on. The walls around him were covered in an odd material unlike anything he'd ever seen. Oddest of all was the being that sat at the table in the middle of the room. A long hiss issued from his lips as he sat up, half reaching for his sword. "Where am I and who....nah, WHAT ARE YOU?"
"You don't need your sword. I mean you no harm," the being said to him, smiling and holding his hands out before him. "In fact, I wish to help you Dolah'Ra. My name is Corvum Merlinus. Where are you? You're on a ship, very, very high in the sky over your world."
"A ship? In the sky? You speak my tongue and you call me by my rightful title." Damon turned on the strange slab which was both soft and hard, running his hand through his hair. "How is it you know these things? You are Chi'Uri? Hai?"
"Hai, we are those you call the Chi'Uri - although as you can see we are not exactly 'silver'. Come, sit here with me and have some food. You do like sand-crab and roasted tubers, don't you? Fresh-caught and newly picked. I will answer your questions as you eat."
"What are those sounds?"
"You can hear them?"
"Hai. They hurt my head."
The Corvum smiled apologetically and shrugged. "Not much I can do about them, I'm afraid. It's the engines and the machines all around us. You'll become accustomed to it soon. Come. Sit with me, Damon Helcarte." Interesting, Merlinus thought to himself. Those sounds were sub-sonic.
