Description

This piano is located in the Yaquina Bay lighthouse in Newport, Oregon. This lighthouse has several rooms in which the lighthouse keeper & his family lived for a fairly short time. The lighthouse was completed in 1871, but then was de-commissioned just 3 years later in 1874 & a new one built a little over 3 miles north (the Yaquina Head lighthouse). Why? Extremely poor planning, as it turned out the lighthouse could not be seen very easily by ships due to it's placement...

I'm so glad you got to tour Yaquina Bay! It's a unique experience. Terrific shot of this wonderful old instrument. (It's a pump organ btw, rather than a piano. The round knobs, called stops, and the treadle pedals give it away.) I was so focused on the stairwells and hallway angles and whatnot that I forgot to take pictures of the very cool exhibits. I love the walls in that place. Gorgeous woodwork!

I suppose they failed to go out in the bay to check for visibility. sounds like Dallas planning. the city approved a highrise condos on the north side of downtown next to a major museum.now the reflected light is causing havoc with displays in the museum.now no one wants to lease any space there since there is a law suit in the making beautiful piano and treatment
