Description

Some may have gotten ebots for this yesterday. I uploaded it but it was not showing up in the What's New so I deleted it. Seems you could get to it from your ebot but not from Rendo page. I complained and seems there is a new bug in Rendo. So why Helens of Perge? Firstly the charming lady taking the photograph of the tower is Helen. She and her husband were on day 50 of a 200 some day tour around the world when I met them in Turkey. Secondly these are the Helenistic Gates of Perge. They virtually define the city and are relatively rare examples of still standing Greek gate towers in southern Anatolia. They were built sometime between 334 B.C. when Alexander the Great entered the city and 133 B.C. when the region came under Roman control. So they are about 400-500 years older than the Roman Gate I showed you earlier. After Alexander left the region there was a long period of warfare ranging from invading tribes to Alexander's generals duking it out for regional control. So Perge build a defensive wall and a pair of four story high watch towers at the main gate. You can see the entrance door to the tower at the lower left side. After the Romans took control there was a long period of peace called the Pax Romana and the gates and wall fell into disuse. At the end of the peaceful period the Romans built a second wall and gate that enclosed the old Greek walls. This image was all postworked in a program called perfect effects 3 by onOne software. You guys still interested in seeing more of this city or are you bored by her? Roman Gates

Roxy, only you could go all the way to Turkey and run into someone named Helen at the Helenistic Gate.... ;-D Another fascinating photo and historical information, my friend! Speaking for myself, I hope you keep 'em coming - these are definitely not boring - quite the contrary!

I really like the jagged profile this structure has acquired as it has deteriorated through time. I also like the light & shadow in this shot, as well as the pastel blue sky - fine postwork. This is a fascinating location, so would be happy to see more...

Never bored. Ruins and their origins will always fascinate me. It's nice to have an education brought to me. The effects are cool and really nice compositon framing. Sometimes I like to see the nature effected ruins, but the postwork adds some nice vibrancy. A very lucky couple to be able to do that.
