Description
As close as my camera would allow me to get. Please zoom for better detail...
Had a little scare with my camera today - the zoom stopped working & displayed the message "System Error (Zoom)". I played around with it for a little while & couldn't get it to work, so I called Panasonic's help line. They had me reset the camera to the original factory settings, remove the battery & then try it again, but it still failed. They then told me all I could do was ship it to them for repair & gave me instructions for how to do that. I was contemplating the misery of being camera-less for weeks (unlike many of you, I only own one camera) when it occurred to me that I could try gently pulling on the lens as I hit the zoom button. After a couple of tries, it worked! It has continued to work smoothly since then & I'm hoping that this was a one-time glitch & not something that will come back to bite me again. Has anyone else experienced anything like this?

I haven't had that kind of problem--yet. Sounds like there may have been a bit of debris causing it to stick? Glad you got it working! And what a beauty of a shot!

There is a place north of me in the lower mountains where small creeks run through a lush wooded area...my favorite spot to hike through the ferns and water-loving plants to find the wild tiger lilys. This is a fabulous shot with warmth and open detail.

An inviting waxy texture...niceee. Have never had the zoom problem...almost sounds like an electric contact problem (but what do I know). I discovered that all of our cameras do have a wear-out life. I think my shutter is manuafctured for 30,000 snaps...after that, luck prevails;-)

Beautiful! They have such marvellous markings, and I love those fat, fluffy stamens. An excellent image! I'm glad you fixed your camera. Good call!

This is gorgeous. The spots make me think of insects, when seen almost as a blur as I'm not focusing on it. I love the colors and the natural contrasts and blends. Quite stunning. As for the camera problems, I've had a similar problem (with a cheap point-and shoot) and it was essentially caused by the lens touching something else as it was extending itself. I think I was trying to shoot something through a window and didn't realize how close I was. I hear that a slight jarring motion in the camera bag can cause a similar problem.

That message would be the equivalent of the blue screen of death on a PC! Love the wild lily photo! Here in Alberta we have a town named Tiger Lily, after the wild tiger lily.

Great to see these when hiking. Though they are common here in the woodlands I still enjoy them! If this is a telescoping style lens, I have had this problem. Did what you tried and it did work for a while only to fail again, sorry to say.

First of all, what a great micro of this stunning and spotted Tiger lily, looks like it has got the 'measles' - but we know better ;) BB Secondly, I have had a great Olympus and a slight accident (mea culpa), same problem, perfectly OK! but will not retract - tried everything, even your suggestion and nobody wants to repair it 'too expensive and not worth it, was the answer'! (so, I can sympathise) Of course I am disappointed and therefore had to purchase a cheap little Fuji, and it's doing fine - but not to the standard I would like! Sic Transit Gloria Mundi!

Beautiful shot! I'm glad you got your camera working again. That's always a sick feeling when technology decides to crash. I felt the same way both times I fried my computer's motherboard! :( But, in this case, sounds like your ingenuity saved the day! Good, because I'd hate to miss out on these beautiful photos you're posting. :)

An amazing zoom, beautiful colors and color contrast. Good luck with the auto-focus.
