Description

Hi all, My thanks to those who have commented on my recent postings.I appreciate it. I have been seeing this Grey Fox off and on for several weeks. I have seen it moving from east to west thru my property in the late afternoon. Foxes have done this for years but always at a considerable distance from my house and at a fast pace. This one however, has been going thru my front yard and being very non-nonchalant about it, lol. I have tried on several occasions to get a pic but all efforts have been absolutely useless - until this past Tue. I was sitting at my computer staring out a window behind it and I saw her approach. I jumped up - grabbed my camera and eased outside on the other side of the house. Her attention was focused on a fig tree that is about 50' from my front door (it is full of rapidly ripening fruit). I started snapping shots but the auto focus was having problems with the poor light conditions. Manual attempts were not much better. Out of 15 shots, this series of 3 were by far the best. Once she became aware of me (the flash of the camera did that) she just checked me out and ambled off in no hurry at all. What a thrill to see one this close. But it is a mixed blessing. Unfortunately - I have to be extra careful about when I let Hoover (my new kitten) outside - never in the early morn or late evening without me right there with him. I think she must have new kits (it's that time of the year) and she is constantly searching for food for them. I don't even care that these are not great images - they are good enough to provide a good look at her. What a lovely animal. By the way - Grey Foxes can climb trees quite well. Isn't that amazing? Lee

He is beautiful. I have seen the past few mornings what I thought was a gray fox but extremely small. He is the size of an avg. cat but is charcoal gray. Maybe the gray fox in the Pacific Northwest is of a different color.
