Description

A plaque on the wall of The George states: "In Medieval times when the House of the Holy Sepulchre stood on this site, Knights of Saint John of Jerusalem were entertained here. In the garden at the rear, crusaders in their black robes with white cross walked and talked. The gnarled Mulberry tree dates from the time of James I. The main block of the hotel was erected in 1597 by Lord Burghley, Lord High Treasurer to Queen Elizabeth I. At least three kings and many other famous travellers have stayed here." I am still hooked on Stamford! Clive

Yep, I'm afraid it is on the old side! Some seriously old buildings.. Some really famous people have stayed here or even lived here.. Great shot.. This place is packed with the rich and famous during Burghley Horse Trials.. Princess Anne (who competed) stayed here.. Glad you liked! Rob

A beautiful place - I think more of such yards in our towns and there would be less crime!
