From the looks of what's on the ground, it appears this animal was hit by a car. I have friends in northern Sweden and they have told me the raindeer there are so stupid they will stand on railroad tracks or on a road and will NOT move despite the train or vehicles coming at them. There is thus a lot of road kill, particularily on the railroad tracks where large numbers can congregate for some reason. A dreadful pity.
