Gorgeous scenery! This place looks ever so peaceful and calm. I really like the sandy beach! I'm envious of those birds who get to experience this tranquility all to themselves! :)

First off, I have yet to see an actual ibis on an actual beach (or a riverbank, as some sacred ibises tend to hang out on one particular riverbank in a currently-unstable country.) And after seeing birds on a beach, I wonder what similarities exist between these birds and the ones we have on the beaches in Chicago. Is ibis poo similar to gull poo, or is it a bit more...well...like the sidewalk mines that geese leave behind. One wonders. I love the starkness of this photo and the otherworldly mood. I also like the title. As a writer, and one with a passing familiarity with ancient Egyptian mythology, I giggled at the title of this shot, and the image of Thoth: the god of writing. Often Thoth was depicted as having a human body, the head of an ibis, and really cool heavy-metal dude hair. I'm not one to actually believe in gods of any sort, but I rather like that Thoth exists in somebody's mythology, and is often depicted wearing a rather swanky pleated kilt and a seriously badass crown full of ostrich feathers and the sun itself. I like the fact that I'm a writer, and that somebody, somewhere back in time, decided that a seriously badass god would be the patron of writing itself. That's kinda cool, as I see it, and I figure if I'm gonna associate a god with any aspect of my life, it might as well be an ibis with a habit of wearing ostrich feathers on his seriously oversized hat. That all has nothing to do with this shot, but I love the fact that this photo exists and has sparked all of the stuff that I just spewed into this comment space. I like this shot a whole heckuva lot!
