Description

One of the newest fighters to hit the market, the Gunslinger is a multirole heavy strike fighter. It is primarily designed to attack enemy capitol ships and installations, and to provide transatmospheric close air support for ground-based combat units. While it has turned out to be an average performer against capitol ships, it has excelled at close support missions both for ground forces and fleet defense. And while it has performed modestly against battleships and carriers, it has gained a reputation as an "escort killer," devastating destroyers, frigates and cruisers. This has also gained it popularity as an anti-pirate vessel, since they tend to rely heavily on frigates and cruisers. The Gunslinger has two very innovative features. First, it is the smallest known vessel capable of FTL travel, although its range is extremely limited. Second, and most well-known, are its articulated gun arms. The arms are controlled by the gunner, who operates them via two waldo-like arm sleeves. This allows the fighter to dodge anti-starfighter batteries while still targeting specific parts of enemy ships and can be a nasty game-changer for interceptors trying to dogfight with it. They also allow precision air-to-ground fire. The guns make the Gunslinger a surprisingly effective dogfighter against smaller craft, despite its slow speed. But that comes into play mostly when it is performing escort or picket duty and its dogfighting abilities drop when used as an interceptor or attack craft, where speed is king.
