This image is a Tribute for all the forgotten Childrend from Cighid....
When I saw this in the news, I was crying bloody tears...
In 1966, the regime of Nicolae Ceausescu decreed a ban on contraception and abortion with the aim of increasing Romania's population. At the age of three years the children were medically examined. Disabled and orphaned children were in huge numbers brought into homes like 'Cighid' or psychiatric hospitals, where they lived under inhumane conditions. Many children died within a few weeks because of hunger, frostbite or other diseases.
'Cighid' est un orphelinat roumain situé à Ghiorac, Bihor près de la frontière hongroise. Il a attiré l'attention du public en mars 1990 peu après la chute du régime de Nicolae Ceausescu.
En 1966, le régime de Nicolae Ceausescu a issu le décret 770 interdisant la contraception et l'avortement avec pour objectif d'augmenter la population roumaine. A l'âge de trois ans, les enfants étaient médicalement examinés. Les enfants handicapés et orphelins étaient placés dans des orphelinats tels que Cighid ou dans des hopitaux psychiatriques. Ils y vivaient dans des conditions inhumaines. Beaucoup d'enfants mouraient en quelques semaines de faim, de gelures ou de maladies.
Das Heim 'Cighid' nahe der Europastrasse 671 erlangte kurz nach dem Sturz von Ceausescu weltweites Aufsehen: 1989 fanden westeuropäische Journalisten eine Kartei, auf der mehr als 240 Kindern namentlich gelistet waren. In Cighid - ebenso wie in anderen rumänischen Anstalten (z.B. das Heim Bradca) - fand man Babys und Kinder mit Körperbehinderung und geistiger Behinderung sowie Entwicklungsverzögerungen. Die internationalen Medien veröffentlichten Bilder der vernachlässigten und verwahrlosten Kinder. Ihre Lebensbedingungen bezeichnete die Presse als menschenverachtend: Der sogenannte Isolator beispielsweise war ein Verschlag mit vernagelten Fenstern, in dem 17 Kleinkinder wie Tiere gehalten wurden. In der Dunkelheit des Raumes mussten sie am Geruch erkennen, ob es sich um Brei, Kot oder Erbrochenes handelt. Schaufelweise habe man damals Exkremente aus dem Haus getragen.

Une histoire abominable, Ute, qui a malheureusement eu lieu; l'Histoire est hélas tachée de ci de là par des horreurs, merci de le rappeler par ton image à ceux qui ont trop tendance à oublier.

Avant de lire ton texte et en regardant ton image, Ute, j'ai tout de suite pensé aux orphelinats roumains ! C'est bien de rappeler ce genre de choses et ton image est super bien faite !

Such a sad and powerful image UTe, how on earth can any society allow their children to end up in such a manner. May God have mercy on us for the way we treat our Children and Elderly is so sad.

There are horror stories like the one you portrayed above that have made news here over the years and other places that I won't get into.Not that I'm ignoring it in any way as I have helped a lot over the years with children of less fortunate circumstances.Yes this is terrible to think that some people can turn a blind eye and ignore what's out there and NO child should have to ever be placed in a position as such but unfortunately it happens more than people think...Your depiction speaks volumes Ute and is so terribly wrong that this takes place.I always have said if there was such a thing as a magic lamp that grants 3 wishes I'd only wish for one and erase all this terrible suffering and no child would ever have to experience it...I actually am thanking you for opening up peoples eyes with this posting and making aware that their "is" a dark side to art that usually sits in a folder and never is presented in respect of not wanting to offend...I for one was not offended by the creation only the reality of knowing that this is a terrible thing to have to witness and am offended that it exists and not more is done to prevent it....

Ich erinnere mich an die Bilder von damals und bekomme gleich wieder eine Gänsehaut. Es ist furchtbar traurig, wie Menschen so etwas anderen Menschen dazu noch Kindern antun können. Es war eine Befreiung für die Kleinen. Leider gibt es auch heute noch soviel Leid und das Schlimme daran ist...man läßt es zu, denn Kinder haben keine Lobby - so hart es auch klingt. Sie werden manipuliert, ausgenutzt, mißhandelt, mißbraucht....getötet. Deshalb ist es schön, dass du uns wieder einmal vor Augen geführt hast, wie gut es uns eigentlich geht und das wir unser Glück mit anderen teilen sollten, die es wirklich nötig haben. Das wir nicht tatenlos zusehen, wenn in unserer Nachbarschaft grauenhaftes passiert!!! Danke Ute!

I remember still when this was in the media. It is something so unbelievable and still it is true. What kind of people are that? How can someone do this to children? I had my mentally disabled daughter for 34 years at home and ware caring about her and this were the most wonderful years in my life. She gave me so unbelievable much back for my love and caring. This children are angel we should treat them as such. Thank you for this heartfelt posting. Hugs Ute
