Growing up on a farm my grandfather had his favorite egg layers and said the reason he kept them in the barn with the younger layers was to show them how it's done.....lol..Though none ever made it past 3 years as they usually ended up on the dinner table at some point....lol...Though a few got to live to a ripe ole age of 4 but was only a few and I was told to not get too attached as they will eventually be dinner when they stop or give less production.I once had one as a pet and she followed me everywhere and when she stopped my grandfather handed me an axe and said mom wanted chicken for dinner so knowing I couldn't go through with it I attempted to set her free but she wouldn't run away and my dad eventually did the dirty deed and that was when I could no longer enjoy chicken because I always thought of her....Though that was then and this is now and speaking of...We are having chicken on the grill tonight.....rofl....
