I love bald eagles, but my perception of them has been shifted, forever, by the loopy efforts of a Macedonian comedian, known as an "expert" in various things due to the fact that he was a dietitian. (A part of why his humor worked so well was because he was always so incredibly off-target.) Anyway, one of his famous sketches (on Macedonian TV and on YouTube) has the guy in question going on and on about the "white headed eagle" which is something he knows a lot about, because he's a dietitian...oh, and also an alcoholic. I didn't intend to turn this into a ramble on the subject of Macedonian humor, but when I saw the thumbnail of this photo, I immediately thought: "Oh, a white-headed eagle!" and then commenced to giggling. (If you ever want to keep things sufficiently serious in life, don't expose yourself to Macedonian sketch comedy: eh, it's in Macedonian anyway, so the language barrier is defense against that.) Anyway: all rambling aside, this is a marvelous photograph and I love the details. Eagles (no matter the species) seem to trigger atavistic responses in humans and this captures the essence of that: the predatory grace of these creatures is astounding and you do incredible justice to the species. Also, as a Chicago dweller, I am quite happy to say that Bald Eagles are probably making a slow, slow return to the Midwest! There is a breeding pair just outside of Chicago. How cool is that!?!?!?!
