The first visit to my garden this year of this spectacular insect. Worth a fullsize view!

What a gorgeous creature! The colors are brilliant and I have to figure out how to actually get dragonflies to cooperate in future photographic endeavors. The dragonflies in Chicago all seem to have acute cases of Attention Deficit Disorder and so they're never still long enough for you to see that they're even there. I rather like this one. Only insects can ever get away with wearing those colors. I'm especially taken by the eyes: it's as if Nature decided to use jade or some such preciousness as inspiration for those eyes. Oh, but wait, maybe Nature decided that dragonfly eyes were the inspiration for jade. One never knows. This is amazingly gorgeous and well worth zooming in!
