Description
Extract from a memo from the Chief of Police to all units:
"Recent surveys of our robot-dependent world suggest we have identified an underworld of non-standard robots. These are characterised by a stubborn independence of thought and action not sanctioned by the robot-licensing authorities.
It would seem that one particular laboratory, (Tate Enterprises), while experimenting with novel methods of improving the intellectual and decision-making capabilities of their products, made some highly suspicious and controversial alterations to the control units (or 'brains') of certain standard production models.
This resulted in unpredictable and random behaviour by the said units. The laboratory did not declare their results to the Robot Control Authority, and these results were not in fact discovered until after the Laboratory was closed down and abandoned. The scientists and technicians attached to the Laboratory have since managed to evade arrest and prosecution.
The laboratory itself (now listed for demolition) was closed down after some of the said units decided to create their own robots, in the process of which they caused equipment to explode and parts of the building to collapse. Robohunter droids were despatched to capture and recycle all Tate robots including standard 'safe' models.
It is believed some of the experimental models may have been marketed long before the Robohunters entered the buildings. All police units should be on constant alert watching for them, but are warned that by now these models will be expert in simulating standard obedient models.
You are reminded, however, that no robot may be taken into custody for examination without the express permission of its owner unless it is caught carrying out an illegal action such as refusing to obey a legal order given by a human."
