Description

"He's a real nowhere man, Sitting in his Nowhere Land, Making all his nowhere plans for nobody. Doesn't have a point of view, Knows not where he's going to, Isn't he a bit like you and me?" Lyrics by John Lennon; Image by me. Just sitting here at lunch and this song popped into my head. Thought of a time with I was that Nowhere Man. Bruised and battered soul, nowhere to go, nothing to say. Just the heart beating in a chest awaiting it to stop. Then a prayer was answered (for the third time) so I'd better make it stick. I met my wife in 9th grade while attending Junior High. She left for Belgium for three years (USAF father). I thought I lost my friend forever (being an Army kid, you'd think I'd be used to it. But we remet three years later when her dad came to retire at our local base. We started dating (time 2). At graduation, she went to college and I to military service. We wrote until letters never returned. While I was working in D.C. as a government employee, my sister ran into her and asked if she could contact me about her. I wrote a short letter saying, "Hi," but in my heart, I was soaring! A couple of weeks later I received a call, thinking it was my secretary whom I was not very happy with at the moment, I left a sort of scathing message. At the end, I heard (among a laugh I haven't heard in 17 years), "I don't know who Angie is, but this is Debbie.." I bounded across the room, off the bed, grabbed the phone on the way sliding under the computer table. "DON'T HANG UP, IT'S ME! BILL!" (Time 3). That was 21 years ago. Married to her now, (for twelve of them, we were engaged for 9); I can understand how the Lord will let you do your own will, but keeps putting people in your path to do His. After both of us making earlier mistakes we were understandably very cautious to re-marry. I resigned from my cushy Gov't position to come home and marry her (before she got away again). It's been better than good, it's been GREAT. No More, a Nowhere Man, I am now a Somebody's Man. And, I Love It.
