Description

Captured 5/11/12, mid afternoon, at the area indicated in the title, in beautiful Huntington Beach, California. For those who have not previously ZOOMED on my stuff, please do. An egregious error was committed yesterday when I included two pics in the collage, i.e., the bottom two depicting the marshy wetlands, that are out of sync with the rest of my ongoing presentation. Those were taken much later on in the trip and after the ones shown in today's collage. Ergo, I had overlooked the above pics when I was creating yesterday's posting. Mea culpa, for sure. I'm glad I caught it at this juncture or there would have been confusion and embarrassment galore. Anyway, today's grouping shows the waterway leading into the actual wetlands, plus another view of the long winding trail....my version of the yellow brick road. Plenty of bushes/flora along the way, but I saw NO insects. Ciao, thankx for coming aboard, and for any and all favs and kind comments.

Is this salt or fresh water Harry. I like the layers in the 1st photos banking. Beautiful waterway photos and nice open trails in #3. Great collage!

So wide open and BIG...no insects could be seen because they were blown away by the winds, most likely ;} Beautiful shots, Harry, and I hope you were wearing a hat out in all the sunshine!

If I'm not mistaken the water is both fresh and salt water. An aerial view of this site confirms this. A small canal on the southern end.

No insects an indication of ...no birds.. No bids means no mammals.. Etc! Etc! As I said before if its the process of being built as such, its going to take many years before anything arrives of interest.. And looking at those crumbling banks by the river system there, they need heavy water plant planting quickly.. That will help sure up the banks and encourage wildlife.. I DO hope they do it.. I do Harry.. Good shots.. Rob

re your comment that the last montage (#3) was out of sync, it's nice of you to explain. But for me, the last montage was still eye-bending---in the highest sense of the term. Here, you're concentrating on more focalized phenomena. Another shot of those wonderful banks along the water: I recall you started this series with such a shot (in #1 of the present 6 or so). Here, you captured the strata and layers of earth, as well as the strange green water. (Good angle too.) Your next two shots feel, to me, akin to each other, because #2 feels like a water-path, while 3 is a 'land' path. (Your yellow brick road. I wonder if the Wizard of Oz would have the stamina to last long in these powerful lands...) And it's so flat! That shouldn't stun me, but I associate flatness with my perch of the woods, not California. But I have a stereotyped vision of California. (Ie, as mountains and hills everywhere, which I know isn't true.) The last two shots intimate the vastness of the area, as well as the desolation. Don't know if the browned grass is that way by drought, or because wetlands naturally have such flora. But it gives an air of a foreboding, replete with life and death. And it looks like there's a sand bar in the water in #5. Love Denise's comments, ie, that the wind blew the insects away; and that Marilyn obviously knows this area. I wish I did. A more 'tame' collection than the last, to be sure, but it only shows how varied this place is. And I love the land formations this place creates. Another fine collection.
