Description

Today is my 6th year anniversary here, but my computer didn't make it. It died on me a week ago and icons started disappearing off the screen, I lost my pictures and my graphic programs... I'm hoping all this will be restored after I take it into the shop - financially I can't afford to have it worked on right now, so this is Good bye for now - If my computer can be retored I'll be back, if not - well, I don't even want to think about it. I just wanted to post to let you all know what is happening... as some of you know, my Wife has an Old computer that takes forever to change screens, so I won't be commenting - I'll still check out the site from time to time though. See ya in the future - I hope. Good bye. picture was a photo from an email.

it could be just the hard drive w hich is 100 dollars to replace...if you already have an operating system just buy a new hard drive and install the windows operating system and you are up to go.... sorry to hear about this, i know it is frustrating you have all these programs then poof gone, i have been there myself.

hope you had back up on the more importance stuff. I pray that Jesus will help you. I knew He would like you go to church and just talk to Him. But He will help you too. find a church that believe in the Bible. a lot of churches do not believe in what the Bible says so if you in one go find one that do believe that the Bible is god word to us and to live it.

so sad rhat i am not closer to ya bro. have you tried the windows repair console.when icons disappear it seems to me that the sytem is corrupt,if the harddisk would be f..ed than it would not work at all and not let only icons disappear. when icons disappear means not necessarly that the programs are gone the icons are usually only shortcuts to said programs.

I agrre with Mike (Faemike) your style and aplomb will see you through this my friend. I be there are 100s of people who would have a go at your pc for free, in your locality. Furthermore, it might be that adding more memory to your Wife's machine is a solution, or even a better graphics card. I will ask my friend when he gets back from Hospital. Send me a mail Mike with the symptoms and I'll see what can be done. You might find that for a very small outlay, there could be a solution and you'd be back on here in no time. You can buy MASSIVE hard drives over here, for less than $100, if that was the primary cause. Likewise, memory (up to 3GB on XP) or a new graphics card, would probably resolve the problem, providing you have an operationg systems to work from. You'll be amazed how gracious and kind people can be, when you're up against it. Why not put an advert in the paper, that says, you will take an old computer off someone's hands who may be upgrading, rather than them just throw it away, which MUST happen loads. Just a thought Mike. Maybe, they may even have a few graphics programs already installed. Hope this inspires you. What will a posting in your local newspaper cost? There may already be a company that "re-cycles" old computers and you could get a half decent one for under $100? Good luck mate! Steve :)

mike !!! it could just be a corrupt user account it can happen in windows from malware! that make Icons disappear! try to see if it will boot into safe mode.. them create another User account.. and give it admin privileges... then re-boot and log on with that account.. make sure you also tell windows to show all hidden and system files and folders!!!! from there Browse to your old user account folder and copy the "root" user account folder to the new account... also I am sending you my e-mail through site mail.... so I may help! God bless my friend! we WILL get you back!!! :o)

Sorry to hear that, MIke. If it's your hardrive that went, you can get a new one and used your PC restore disks, I had a drive die, but I was able to put it into an external hard drive case and that read the drive long enough to get my stuff off it. Good luck.
