Description
Pike's Peak is a mountain on the front range of the Rocky Mountains 10 Miles (16Km) West of Colorado Springs. This is where Steve, many of You know as (eekdog) a fine artist and friend lives. It was originally called "El Capitan" by Spanish settlers. The Mountain was renamed Pike's Peak after Zebulan Pike Jr., an explorer who led an expedition to the Southern Colorado area in 1806. The Arapahoe name is "Heey-Otoyoo", meaning (Long Mountain) At 14,115 feet (4,302m) it is the 31st highest mountain and one of the 57 peaks above 14,000ft (4300m) in Colorado. It rises 8300ft. (2500m) above the city of Colorado Springs. It is also the eastern most 14,000ft. peak in the United States. Here it is seen from the colorful rock formation known as The Garden of the Gods. Thanks for stopping by. Information was taken from Wikipedia. Please zoom.

I remember old Zebulon. Died during the War of 1812. He was only 34. This is a terrific capture, beautifully framed. I do prefer the Arapahoe name though.

Gorgeous photo, and I remember the Garden of the Gods so fondly from several childhood vacations. I grew up near Kansas City, and Colorado was always our vacation destination. Thanks for taking me back to a happy memory!
