I cannot find this in the book I have, but it’s big! 1 foot in length or 30.48 cm

I am not familar with this type of mushroom either,but I here of some that could be cooked up like a steak.Good find and shot.

Quite a specimen - well seen & captured. I've found some this size growing on my property, but not being an expert, I would never risk eating a wild mushroom unless I was 100% sure that it wasn't poisonous...

Cut it in half, cook half & feed it to a friend. Wait 24 hours, cook & eat other half yourself. Or buy a book :) Strangely (despite what our mothers tell us) most fungi aren't deadly, which don't mean they're good to eat. I have a 'shroom book and think this one is in the "feed to mother-in-law" category...

We used to call these 'horse mushrooms' when we were kids and were told to stay away from them. This is a lovely capture of this one.
