Description
Green Heron, on a log, in the middle of a lily pad, eating a dragonfly. We watched as the heron just sat on this log & several dragonflies obligingly flew by & got snapped up. This was taken on the same pond as my previous post in Tussing Park.
I'm not a bird expert at all & I know this heron looks more blue than green, but he looks exactly like the picture of a Green Heron in my Birds of Oregon book & there don't seem to be any other varieties of heron native to this area that resemble him at all. And there are some bits of green in his feathers. But if there are any bird experts out there who disagree with my identification, please let me know...

So they are fast enough to snatch a dragonfly in midflight - thats impressive. Very colorful capture and a beautiful bird.

Most certainly a Green Heron and a super photo and postwork. They are very common in south Florida!
