Hi, I'm Andrea, and I'm interested in creatures and plants both wild and tamed, and people of all sorts. I only use a compact digital camera ,as I love being able to get it into a back pocket, and not have to cart heavy kit about. I carry a Panasonic Lumix TZ series, binoculars and a hand lens almost everywhere. Most of my outings are with the dogs so I only use point and shoot.
I am getting the hang of Photoshop, thanks to some very kind folk on RR!Â
I have a wildlife garden in Bournemouth, Dorset, in the UK, and spend a lot of time there . I retired from teaching art to teenagers a while ago.
I'm now getting some good results with my digi compacts; it took me a while to make the switch from my old film camera, an 1960 ish Pentax Spotmatic, but the mistakes are much cheaper! Â
I have 4 lodgers, 3 dogs and a parrot who, as at 2017, I have had 40 years.
I has so far had 19 dogs, mostly rescues.

Animals have such a poetic grace to them, and you've captured it here! I love the mood of this shot and the gleam in the eye. I've been reading a lot of Ursula K. LeGuin lately, and I'm having an immensely wonderful time revisiting Earthsea, yet again...I do that on occasion. I bring this up, because she has such wonderful passages involving animals acting like animals and yet, interacting with humans (wizards mostly) in distinctly unexpected ways. Animals, in the Earthsea Cycle (like wizards and dragons) speak The Language of the Making which is the language everything that exist either speaks or responds to. There was a mage named Dulse, who kept chickens. When he discovered that he had to go and try to do something important at the epicenter of an earthquake (it was beginning to have contractions, and he felt the impending labor pains!) he had to tell his chickens that he was going away and that they had to forage on their own for a while, but that there was a fox in the area. My favorite passage in the story is: "Have you anything to tell me?" Dulse asked them. Brown Bucca, his favorite, shook herself and said her name a few times. The others said nothing. I thought of that passage when I saw this image, because you've obviously captured a particular someone saying a particular something, rather casually, I might add...but then those four-legged people-creatures always say things casually, and with the kind of elegance you've captured here! I'm more of a cat person, but I can definitely see a similar elegance in the canine people you hang around with, and I have to say it's quite a good thing to see! This is superb!

He's handsome and knows how to work it, doesn't he? LOL

That really is a "I need to be your favourite" kind of shot. Boris is so jealous, he sits on my shoulder and pushes Foggy away and gives me the same eyes as this!
