Description
This was as close as I could get to recreating from memory the indescribable beauty of the Pacific northwest coast. I was in Washington state for vacation last summer and did some beachcombing around tidepools along beaches like this. Enormous seastacks would tower over the beaches like little raised islands sometimes topped with trees. Some details are a little inaccurate though. I don't think the living trees were ever really that close to the salt water. In fact some beaches were strewn with heuge stumps and beach logs, some the diameter of automobiles, that had been tossed like matchsticks by the pounding surf. Truly a place of awesome beauty.
Anyway, the fog bank rolling into the beach was done post render. I had tried to get the effect I wanted with a heuge volumetric cloud sphere surrounding the whole scene but it was sending render times too the moon. Besides that each of those trees 50,000+ polygons. I thought my hard drive was going to blow up as it was since whole file is 7,389,313 polygons and more than consumed my 256M of ram.

Very atmospheric, in the emotional sense...When you were there, did the sun come out?

Very nice picture you made here. I love the atmosphere it generates. Suggestion; when you leave the threes on the left hill out the composition will be much better.

Having taken two weeks vacation to explore the Washington coast about 21 years ago, I think you did an excellent job of capturing the coast! If you ever get brave and try to capture those massive piles of driftwood, let me know! Keep up the good work!!

Hmmm...I like everything about this, especially the trees on the left. I'd leave them in!

Aye, Chewy, it's beautiful! I live in Aubuurn, have been here since 1984 and this image is like a snapshot from my world! Good stuff... I wish I was even closer!

This looks so much like the coast of the Olympic peninsula in Washington. Excellent and dreamy composition!
