Description

Bala and Alis travel through the Hunter's Halls by torchlight, searching for the Manticore of Hallincoif, or some other such nonsense. The Hunter's Halls are little more than mere ruins, so named not for their original inhabitants, but for the foul creatures that stalk them now. It's said that in the Hunter's Halls the shriek of bats and the scurrying of rats are welcome sounds. It's when the lesser vermin go to ground and stay silent, that is the time to fear, for then the beasts are nearly on you. *There's a larger version over at Deviantart, for those who want it.

Fantastic looking scene Pete, the lighting here is superb. I was thrilled to see another adventure from the Busty Elves series and enjoyed the story behind the image

The characters are well made, as per the norm from you, but this piece feels like something's missing. It, unlike the models, feels flat and lifeless. It somehow feels below the quality of your work I've come to expect.

Interesting narrative Pete and the accompanying rendering is excellent. The ladies seem wary and concerned but unafraid.

Poor girls. I think this will not go well for them, lol. Definitely looks better when viewed full sized. I wound how this image would look when using Adam Wright's Dynamic Lights and Actions. I apply the actions to most of my images and get results that really make my images pop. Site mail me with a an email to send the image to and I will send it after I try it and you can see for yourself.

At TD-0013: Thanks for the comment, I'd suggest you look at this one at DeviantArt at full size if you haven't already to take a closer look. You may catch some details that otherwise would be missed. Oddly enough there's a ton of work that went into this one. It certainly wasn't a "load figure press art button" scene. The background set is StoneMason's Greek Column set (years old, but high quality), multiplied 7-8 times and spread around to look much larger than it is. I also used the grouping tool to pull its components apart (a wall here, some pebbles there), to throw them around and vary the scene. The redheaded character Alis is tried and true, the outfit for Bala was something relatively new, put together from about 3-4 different outfits, with textures adjusted to match. In terms of lighting, most of it comes from two point lights parented to the torches. Indirect lighting, depth of field, and atmosphere were all used here to increase realism. It all made for a dammed long render time, even for me who currently renders using a hex-core cpu. That said, one of the downsides of using atmosphere (aside from increased render time), is that it washes out the scene. In postwork, the image did "pop" better when I increased contrast, but then you lose the atmosphere effect. In this case, I wanted to keep the misty think air look. C'est la vie I suppose.

Nice work Pete- having the lights eminate from the torches definately helps the realism. Subtle depth of field- also nice.

It's excellent work, but for me, I think the torches flame looks a little off, and that kind of brings down the picture. The characters and outfits look sharp, though, and you can never go wrong with a Stonemason product. Nice work, and I'll check out the dA post.

Seaview123. I Agree. The torches are as they came "out of the box". I tried playing around with them, but in the end there is something off with them, at least in this scene.

Me like, I never use the atmosphere for just this reason, I've never have had good results with it...same as DoF. I get the feeling that there is something just off scene waiting to pounce...but that could be just because I know how you think! LOL!

If you look close, you'll see red eyes in the background. As for DoF, if you increase Pixel samples, the results improve, albeit with vastly increased render times.

I'm wondering who or what belongs to those red eyes ? something no good for BEIP's I guess ! LOL Neat POV and for the torch light I would have turned on inverse squared in the light properties to make this scene even more intense, just a suggestion. Well done & ~Cheers~
