Oh, I love these critters. They're not actually spiders, despite the number of legs they have; I think they like convincing people that they're spiders...only they're vaguely social (not many spiders are) and they don't produce silk. They're not venomous, either...they eat lichens and bird poo. This is an Opilione, known commonly as a "harvestman" or a "daddy longlegs" if you're not in England. They're such odd creatures. If you look carefully, you can see its eyes on top of a periscope sort of turret sticking out of the center of its head, only its head is fused to the rest of its body. I'm quite fond of these creatures, especially since there are some rather colorful ones out and about. This is one of the more common sorts (some are red and black, and incredibly fashion forward.) They're amazingly fragile creatures too...if you touch one, it might lose it legs. This is a wonderful shot, and I've rarely seen one posing in so dramatic a way.

Thanks. The harvestman I was trying to take a photo of was a redish, orange colour. They have VERY good eyesight as they always run away everytime I try and get near one to get a piccy.
