Description

Needs a full size peep. This shot was taken in my front yard early one morning a few days ago. It was for an assingement in a photography course I am taking. I was required to shoot a small object using at least two classic elements of composition and I was not allowed to use photoshop to fix anything (except for framing). Can you guess some elements I used? This is right from my Nikon D5100 with my new Tamron Di II 17-50 mm f2.8 lens - which I just love - it is so sharp across the range. This is hand held so I am especially pleased at how it turned out. I was sitting on my butt on the wet morning moss, but I was determined to get it right.

Very nice photo. I'm not a photog so I'll guess macro and depth of field settings?? Good luck with your course.

Beautiful composition & superb lighting, no matter what elements you chose to emphasize. Although I studied art in college & learned many things about composition, I never consciously think about or try to apply any of them & just try to follow my instincts. But since you're asking us to guess, my guesses are color, rhythm & positive/negative space...

A lovely shot, Roxy - great pastel colors in the flowers. Nicely done - I give you top marks :-D I'd say you used rule-of-thirds and leading lines - and quite effectively, I might add. And that certainly beats sitting on someone else's butt.... :-P

Beautiful shot, Roxy. In the zoom, the moisture on the flowers is such a subtle feature.

I like Harebells but they can be difficult as they are so very light and the slightest wind moves them about! Nice shot!

Great shot here!! Just checked the rule of third mentined by Rod. But I also thought of portraits where you "give more air" in the direction the person is looking. I work a lot with the POV and compositions to get things to look right - not always thinking to much about it tecnichly but I also use my experiences from videos and movies I've done.

This is a beautiful shot! The composition is just right and the background blur perfect to make the bells come out well. I love these little flowers! My grandmother had a book with short tales about the fairy world and there was a picture of fairies wearing these bells as hats. I will never forget it even though I was only 3 or 4 when she read it to me.

Very nice for so close and hand held. I'll bet it would have been super sharp with a tripod. Excellent composition. I like how it fills the one side and the back is blurred creating depth and focusing the viewer on the flowers.

If paying someone to teach you to point a camera and push a button is going to get your pants wet, by all means, pay them - lol

I never studied anything though wish I had. I just take 200 shots & hope there's a keeper in there somewhere. I saw harebells the other day, though someone had to tell me what they were, they and this shot are lovely! I'd guess 1) contrast (light v dark) & 2) subject focus on the first 'third' line on the vertical. What do I win? I could use a new wooden spoon so have nothing to lose!
