And so, we say farewell to the 30th Olympiad of the Modern Era, also known as the XXX Games. I only recently discovered that the ancient Olympics ran for over a thousand years!! When I was a small child, my father told me a joke about an athlete who was so proud of his gold medal, he got it bronzed. I was a bit too young to understand, but then again, getting things bronzed (baby shoes?) was already "out" by that point and I had never heard of anyone doing it. So anyway, at this year's event, a good time was had by all. They came in strangers and left heroes. The thrill of victory, the agony of defeat, world peace, honorable competition, and all that. Unfortunately, the North Pole team did not win any medals. Neither did Atlantis, Troy, Neverland, Narnia, or any other planets. There's always next time! Finally, you may be wondering whatever happened to that creepy guy from Romania with the overdeveloped canine teeth. Well... There was a little accident. In the Olympic Stadium, his preliminary run was taking place at the same time as the women's javelin throw. An American, named Buffy Summers... The wind must have taken it... Congratulations to all the Olympians! Those were some great games, and some great opening/closing ceremonies, too. Now, on to Russia, and then Brazil!!
