Description

He'd been watching for a very long time - long before he ever began his work. It was by observing and correlating what was observed that one learned. What those old eyes had seen could fill libraries, and still not tell all of it. Those who were 'immortal' on Terra were young compared to Merlinus and his kind, but not unrelated. Like the Corvum, they were all specialized entities, who had observed and learned. They were scattered about the galaxy on many worlds. They had come after Merlinus and his kind, who were only still watching then. They'd tried to help the humans in a direct way and suffered for it. Apparently, they'd adapted over the centuries and now worked within the system of things as they were. He was not certain if this was necessarily a good thing, but they did seem to try to keep from becoming corrupted by it. It was in fact their enemies who were the spreaders of the corruption, violence and filth that had overtaken Terra. Ironically, their enemies were supposed to be the 'good guys' and they the 'bad'. It was a problem they'd have to work out for themselves, just as the Malkathians had to work out their own problems. Damon, if he succeeded and all the prophecies were true would be the one to save them all - somehow. Just how, remained a mystery. It wasn't Nico, and in some way he realized this. Some may have faulted him for not trying, but he knew deep down inside, his son was the one. He was willing to stand aside and allow the young warrior to do what he was born to do. It wasn't fear that held him back, or anything else. Nico simply believed that what the prophecies said were true, and that he was no part of them. At least, the Malkathians had something of substance to show them their beliefs were not unfounded. It was a shame that statue had to be brought up here to the ship. For those who still held on, perhaps it would serve as a beacon of hope. Merlinus wondered idly if the statue was somehow destroyed, would it reform itself? Well, he wasn't going to be the one to take that chance. It was theirs. He was only it's custodian for the meantime. Another thought crossed his mind then: was the deposition of the dragons on Malakath a blessing in disguise? Had those who did it timed it just right, knowing that when the evil was most rampant, the hero would emerge? Unless there was some great revelation ahead, no one would ever know the answer to that. ***** Playing around with this marvelous old face in PShop with layers and having a bit of fun. Hope you like it. Thanks for stopping by dear friends. Your comments, etc are much appreciated :) Have a fantastic weekend! Ray

Excellent portrait. You've added some beautiful mystique and mystery with your effects and layers. Nice chapter too. I like how it shows an even greater depth and age to our universe.

Playing catch up and perusing your gallery and this one leaps out at me first--I LOVE the colors in this, the green is a highlight but the red and browns really make it spectacular! One can get lost in the knots.
